Rice Donations to the less fortunate

This coming lunar new year, ULC will be extending a helping hand for a good cause by pledging towards a RICE donation project which will benefit 17,866 needy beneficiaries across Singapore. Project R.I.C.E 2013 is an annual nationwide community service project helmed by SMU Red Cross since 2009 and involves hundreds of Red Cross Youth volunteers in a nation-wide rice collection event. This year, they aim to collect 37,000kg of rice over the next few weeks, to ensure that the beneficiaries will have enough rice for their CNY reunion dinners.

Rice is a staple which we may often take for granted. Yet to many of these beneficiaries, it means more than just a meal. Receiving the rice donations brings love and warmth to them during the festive period so that they can actually have enough to enjoy a simple reunion dinner with their families.

NUS ULC has set a target to raise and donate 1.5 tonnes of rice, and as of 18/1/2013, we are at 1.06 tonnes. If you are keen to make a rice donation, kindly drop Pearlyn an email at pearlyn.yapse@gmail.com to find out how you can do so.

**********************

This initiative by ULC aims to garner as much support as possible from our network of alumni + current members to help the less fortunate in Singapore during this festive season. All rice donations pledged will be donated to the organisers of Project R.I.C.E 2013 with the hopes of bringing a smile to the faces of more than 17,000 beneficiaries.

Thank you so much for your generosity and support. :D

THE RETURN OF AWESOMENESS: 13TH NUS LIFESAVING INVITATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

This year’s Lifesaving Invitational Championships was undoubtedly a remarkable event. Held at NUS Student Recreation Centre Swimming Pool, with experienced lifesavers from a wide range of schools and institutions, it provided a great platform for lifesaving teams all around the country to share the techniques and spirits of lifesaving.
This event will never be so fabulous without the support of all the participants. We, the organizing committee, sincerely appreciate their high standard performance and excellent spirit shown in this event.  This competition is definitely a fruitful experience for many of the participants, especially for the new competitors. Hope the newbies would understand more about lifesaving as a sport and feel the spirit that drives the lifesavers. And also good job to our medalists! Your efforts and hard work have paid off. We believe that all participants, no matter what prize they won during the two days, will maintain their hard work and devotion to lifesaving, and continue to promote lifesaving in Singapore to a higher level.
We would also thank everyone in the organizing committee, the event will not be so smooth and successful without all your hard work in the preparation and operation. Special thanks to all the seniors that came down to help out and guide the juniors along. Thank you officials for running the events too. And last but not least, we would thank our sponsors for their generous support to make this event happen.
The results sheets of the event are available here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/hcn48o7s59id988/A6OoFyqUJZ/NUS%20INVIS%20RESULTS
Thank you all very much. See you next year.
